Biomass

The Union of Agrinio responding to the demands of the times, has invested in biomass, in the context of the Union’s "green" initiatives.

Responding to the current demands and remaining consistent with our belief that farmers hold a key position and role in the Development of the Renewable Energy Sources (hereafter RES), we continue investing in the emerging technologies of this field. In this context, the Union of Agrinio has already filed an application for the creation of a biomass power plant of 5MW at the facilities of Platanos area, whereas the relevant environmental impact assessment has already been approved.

Although still at an early stage, the implementation of both the afore-mentioned unit and corresponding additional technology investments can provide significant benefits for the Prefecture. Indeed, if we take into account the continuous need for supply of raw materials, it is certain that this need will be significantly covered by both the crop residues -which to date remain unexploited- and the contractual cultivation aligned with the appropriate standards.
