Industrial Slaughtering facility

The facilities of the Union’s industrial slaughterhouses are located at the municipal district of Spolaita of Agrinio near the Bridge of Acheloos River and are rightfully amongst the most modern slaughterhouses in Western Greece.

Since 2009 the Industrial Slaughterhouses are rented to the company AYFANTIS, which is still responsible for the facility’s management. These modern slaughterhouses offer three slaughter lines (cattle, pigs, sheep and goats) and rabbit slaughter, bearing a capacity of approximately forty-five tons per day. The facility is fully complying with the international standards and requirements for this activity, referenced by codes S 83 for the slaughterhouse code and 25 BIS for its byproducts.

The facility is also certified by BIOHELLAS regarding the slaughtering of organic animals. Moreover, a food safety management system is applied, according to the standard EN ISO 22000: 2005 (HACCP).

At the facility one can find large spaces for animal reception, pre-cooling services after slaughtering and cold storage for the meat’s preservation before loading.
